What purpose does Twitter serve for normal people?

I've been trying to figure this Twitter thing out and apparently it's good for bloggers and famous people and businesspeople to share news about what's going on. My question is, what purpose does it serve for regular people that don't have a new album out or anything? Do you just tell people stuff like "Out with my friends" or whatever?



Also, if you get Twitter, can you just follow celebrities to see what they're up to and not tweet about anything?What purpose does Twitter serve for normal people?
Twitter is basically just to say what you're doing or thinking about - just to let the people interested enough in your life know. It's also a way to get your personality out there and for people to in some small way 'get to know' you.



And yeah, you can just open an account and follow celebrities. You don't even have to follow them, you can just search their name and go on their page.
i agree with you... i'm clueless about myspace and facebook and twitter and all that stuff. I find it to be a waste of time, and though i havent used it personally, I know people who have used it and obviously they love it, trying to be "popular" like those... *cough* celebrities... i find it sick that people can post all that personal info about themselves, on one of the most pupular and most visited websites of all time. twitter seemed pointless to me before i joined too but after i did, it wasn't all that bad. it's actually a pretty fast way to keep in touch and let all your friends know what's up, what you're doing, where you are, etc. if you need to ask a question, just tweet and all your friends that have twitter connected to their mobile will get a text showing them what you just tweeted. it's a quick and easy way to keep in touch and it keeps things short and simple. you can follow all your favorite celebs etc and see what they're doing or when/where they're playing next and all that without having to say a word to them or anyone else.

On twitter you can do anything that you want. You can socialize and make all sorts of new friends and get up to date news and find out things as soon as they happen. Yea you can just follow celebrities as well and keep up to date where they are sometimes and what they are doing. twitter isnt all that great,but yes you can follow celebrities if you like.when i joined they gave me a list of celebrities.i deleted all of them.miley cyrus was one of them
In it's simplist form, Twitter is good for keeping in touch. Join and get your friends to as well.
Twitter has a purpose for regular people--you probably just won't have 3.5 million followers.
