i have internet explorer and firefox. i have to use internet explorer cause something is wrong and my firefox flash is messed up.

This is the primary reason why twitter has limitations of length of message. Additionally Tweets are made available in real-time while traditional blogs doesn't support this awesome feature.
140 char is way good ,if you know to use words effectively. No body wants to read heck loads of crap on a blog- all the micro blogging services are aimed for particular topics, share news and useful info.
So suggest you to make wise use of Twitter and enjoy. And don get crazy for a work around to write more messages, when you can simply tweet all day--break apart your messages ;-)

Is it possible to remove strangers mentions on twitter?
There's a few people that I follow on twitter who are very well known, they have thousands of followers. My feed is often covered with re-tweets and mentions from people I don't know or follow because they mention someone I do follow. Is is possible to remove these kinds of posts from my feed? I only want to see what the people I am following have to say, I don't need to know every time they're mentioned or tweeted to.Is it possible to remove strangers mentions on twitter?
Ahh no sorry, there is no way to remove a strangers tweets. Twitter currently only has the option of blocking followers, nothing else. There is no way to remove re-tweets and mentions right now.

Sometimes I do. It's usually because that celebrity is tweeting 50x an hour and its nothing interesting or I tweet them a question and they don't respond but they respond to other people's tweets telling them they're hot and what not. So, I would start teaching (English) soon not that many hours tough and I was thinking on keeping in touch with students via Twitter. Wise? Forget it? What would be the Pros and Cons? Keep your professional and private life completely separate. This might mean having 2 twitter accounts, but definitely don't allow students (current or former) into your private Twitter account. The link below is about Facebook but the same principles apply!
Our school is doing a test run with our senior class as many senior classes are using twitter as way to find quick news sources, articles, ect. but also connect due to homework, questioning, studying, ect. Each student has a school account and their own personal account. With us, most students use their personal for both, but are careful about what they say. Teachers follow us, we follow our teachers. Hell, one of the teachers tweeted us we were having a fire drill 5 minutes prior two weeks ago! It's also a way for the teacher to gain another foot on the students level since most students now a days are addicted to technology. We can ask teachers throughout the day questions, or even tell them "hey sorry won't be in class, just a heads up!" and things of that nature. Of course due to the rule teachers must report what they feel necessary, so far no one abuses the priviledge of having it unblocked on our school laptops but we can also use our phones.Is it wise to set up a Twitter account to keep in touch with students online for educational reasons?

You could see what the troubles are that they're having

Twitter is just a narcissistic way of telling other people what you're doing from one minute to the next, as though anyone cares.

Facebook is okay because it's an easy way to keep in touch with friends and family, which is great for me since I spend so much time away from home.
However, last week, I went to a party at my cousin's house and saw family I hadn't seen in over two years. The next day, we had a baptism on my wife's side, and I saw her whole family as well.
That was a whole lot better than Facebook.

The site has an enormous worldwide user base, with incredibly high traffic, and all that costs money, so they must be incurring fairly large running costs.

Hey, I just got a Twitter and I now follow Cory Monteith. He is my favorite actor and is one of my role models because he got over his drug problems. Anyway, I want to tell him that he is one of my role models and really inspire me to something to help the world and stuff like that. I don't want to look like a creepy or stalker. I just want to tell him that he's inspiring. Simple. And please suggest me to what to say to him.

I notice that twitter is getting more and more popular. How is it different from all those other networking sites such as Facebook, and Myspace?What is the point of twittering and does anyone have an account on twitter.com?
Well my first introduction was through a podcast I listened to - they started a website with a forum, so that's like a little community - then they started up a laconica server, and I got an identi.ca account - so we're all in touch. Now I know what people who listen to the podcast are doing, thinking - and they give me ideas related to the podcast (as a linux user, it generally revolves around problems and issues relating to me)
Twitter is different in that you can't set up your own server - it is closed, and if you leave it behind, you leave your friends behind - it's closed source. Having said that, everyone is on there. Stephen Fry just got in a taxi and is probably just boarding his flight to Singapore.
You can subscribe to anyone. The best way to find out is to follow my link here - you can make an account on both of these, use the same name/password for each, and then just watch and explore.
I've got lots of people listening to me, including StephenFry. I occasionally type in there a message saying what I'm doing - example 'can't work out how to fix identibash' and instantly got a reply which helped me to fix it (and I couldn't find anything at that time on internet. Now if you search, you'll probably find the solution)
It's nothing like instant messaging, but it's pretty current. It's a bit like a blog - which you may or may not have been interested in (for me listening to a podcast it is nice to have a chance to comment and answer points)
Currently, I run a shortcut launcher called gnome-do (works a bit like launchy) which means I can hit Alt+Space and quickly type in something - and I have software (Gwibber is my favourite, but I've tried spaz and others...) but can also keep it running in tabs in my Firefox browser.
Just try it, it's far superior to Facebook and Myspace. For a start, you only click links you want to click. You don't have to load horrible heavy flashy webpages.
You can simply leave it running and ignore it, check for messages written to you.

I find identica offers good privacy for me, but if you notice - all my posts appear to people who use Twitter. (That's what it means 'Twitter is closed' - nobody else can hear you, but with an open format, it does all - I see all and receive all by using identi.ca to post to both accounts)

Twitter just allows you to type what ever you are thinking or doing. You type something and your friends or followers can view what you type and respond to you. I thought it was stupid until i started playing around with it. I love it now. Something to do when you're bored....def try it out.

i have one..its lik txt..send a @reply 2 a person %26amp; if they're online yu recieve it in a split second. twitter is da ish..i tlk 2 some celebs %26amp; upcomin artist...try it
